Jacmel – November 23, 2018

NOVEMBER 2018 TRIP TO JACMEL, HAITI

The day after Thanksgiving, November 23, 2018, we traveled to Haiti to view the progress of the Parisot School construction.  Up until the day before our trip we were unsure if we could travel due to the political unrest in and around Port au Prince.  The roads out of the city were blocked by groups protesting the questionable policies of the Haitian Government.  Thanksgiving afternoon we received the news that the roads were clear and we would be able to proceed with our plans.

Although Jacmel is 52 miles from Port au Prince it took us 3 hours to get from the airport to the Felician Sisters Mission. Once we arrived Sister Marilyn, Sister Inga and the staff at their volunteer house treated us to a Haitian meal and very comfortable quarters.  Over the course of our 5 day stay we saw first hand the good works the Sisters do every day for the families of Jacmel.  Their Mission is an oasis for the children to eat, learn and simply be kids.

We hope in the near future many of the kids who spend time at the Felician Sisters Mission will have the opportunity to attend the Parisot School and learn a trade that will help them gain employment in the Jacmel area.
